Robert
Meyers
Bob, a resident of Alpharetta, GA, has been blowing
glass for 15 years. Bob explores a range of techniques
to utilize the versatility of the medium, producing a
broad assortment of vases, bowls, paperweights, fish and
Holiday ornaments. He was first attracted to
glassblowing as an exchange student in Sweden where he
developed an appreciation for Orrefors and Kosta Boda
glass. Determined to learn the art form, he studied with
some of the leading glass artists in the United States
at the Penland School in North Carolina, Haystack
Mountain School of Crafts in Maine and Urban Glass in
New York City. He is a staff glass artist at Stone
Mountain Park Crossroads 1870’s village where he gives
public glassblowing demonstrations every Saturday. A
selection of his work was on display for a year at
Hartsfield International Airport in 2003. His work is
currently available at Raiford Gallery in Roswell, GA
and Flowers of Giverny in the Shops of St. Ives in
Alpharetta.
Glassblowing demands commitment, physical stamina, a
sense of timing and the ability to withstand the heat
and stress in front of the furnace. It is a difficult
and challenging craft, but the reward is the
exhilaration and intense pleasure of mastering a white
hot liquid-solid that does not yield easily to the
wishes of the blower. |
